Globe separatory funnels are commonly used glass instrument in the laboratory, mainly used for separation and extraction of liquid mixtures. It is usually made of glass and has a pear-shaped or spherical structure to provide a larger liquid storage and mixing space. The upper and lower openings of the funnel are both equipped with standard ground mouths, which can be easily connected to other standard ground mouth instruments such as flasks, condensers, etc. to ensure the sealing of the device. Located at the lower end of the funnel, it is used to control the outflow of liquid. The piston is generally made of glass or polytetrafluoroethylene. The glass piston has good sealing performance, while the polytetrafluoroethylene piston is more corrosion-resistant. It is used to seal the upper opening of the funnel to prevent liquid volatilization and external impurities from entering.

Product applications

(1) Liquid-liquid separation: used to separate two immiscible liquid mixtures with different densities, such as separating water and oil.

(2) Extraction operation: using the difference in solubility of the solute in two immiscible solvents to transfer the solute from one solvent to another solvent to achieve the purpose of extracting or enriching the solute, such as extracting iodine from iodine water.
